I figured I can't really be bothered with the Michelin contest. Sure, I could get a pretty penny selling the prize car if I won, but I just checked and the title is not for the best college driver in Brazil, but the safest college driver in Brazil, and that sure isn't me. Plus, driving like a granny isn't inherently safer or more efficient than, say, driving quickly and carefully. I'm not advocating breaking the speed limit afroduck style, or peeling off every line and light just for the heck of it, but I still believe there's a sweet spot of speed where you can both keep your movement flowing through two or three lanes of an avenue and still not break any laws or do any reckless stuff. You don't have to do 40 kph in a 60 zone to be safe, in fact, by not keeping with the flow of traffic, you're probably at higher odds of causing a mess up than if you were doing 60-70 in the same 60 zone as everyone else. This is something I've been thinking about since I read the rules, where drivers will be given points for keeping at lower speeds than the posted limit, and to be honest, I didn't really think this through, but it doesn't look like to me that making yourself an obstacle by crawling along twenty km under the limit will keep you any safer.
Porsche just because.
